About Jeremiah 5:31

“The prophets prophesy lies,
The priests rule by their own authority,
And my people love it this way.
But what will you do in the end?”
Jeremiah 5:31 (NIV)

Although the text above refers to the Southern Kingdom, Judah, there can be no denying that this is still happening today, which is a frightening thought but not really surprising. You may wonder, “How can churches get swayed by those claiming to be prophets but in reality are phonies?”

I believe this happens when the elders of the church are caught sleeping on the job. As overseers of the flocks, they were given responsibilities to shepherd yet sometimes out of convenience they just do nothing about it, like, why bother, right? No! Elders are supposed to “HOLD FIRMLY to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, SO THAT he can encourage others by sound doctrine and REFUTE THOSE WHO OPPOSE IT.” (Titus 1:6,7,9)

But what if our leaders who are supposed to be our the first line of defense against wolves in sheep’s clothing become the first ones to give into the seductive and deceptive messages, should the people of God simply follow and suffer?

Don’t think for a moment that this exonerates the entire flock simply because they’re just followers. As in the case of Judah in the time of Jeremiah, they were also held responsible. Jeremiah 5:31 says, “my people love it this way.” They felt no sense of accountability and responsibility because they loved it that way.

Maybe today it’s out of convenience since don’t have to memorize Bible verses (Joshua 1:8), they don’t have to diligently study the Scriptures (2 Timothy 2:15), and they don’t feel the need to contend for the faith (Jude 1:3), all that they ever need to do is just wait for the next oracle, and blindly follow orders.

This is why there is growing need for Christians who have knack for discerning spirits (1 Corinthians 12:10?cf.??1 John 4:1) because many phonies have risen up to take advantage of God’s people (Matthew 24:24b.) and mind you, even now they are being conditioned that the coming prophets, a whole lot of them, are genuine!

“In these recent years, beginning with our Jubilee season, the Lord has given us tremendous grace and privilege to connect with a?new breed of prophets?who do not only prophesy but also experience being taken to heaven and sit with the divine prophetic councils in heaven.” Dan Balais leader of Intercessors for the Philippines and CLSF,?Eagle Christian online, last accessed March 14, 2012. (Emphasis mine.)

I do hope there will be many more of those who will be concerned and give a little bit more effort to sound the alarm, ?the wolves are coming!” or “the wolves are already in the fold!” It?s not going to be fun doing it alone. When Jeremiah was given charge to speak to God?s people, he was forewarned that his audience will be a ?hard nut to crack.? I mean, he was told to get ready because when he speaks to them, their faces will show sign of unbelief. Surely enough they did not believe him, they even tried to kill him (Jer. 26:8) but he pressed on anyway.

“Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: BE NOT DISMAYED AT THEIR FACES, lest I confound thee before them.”? Jeremiah 1:17 (KJV)

Sometimes I envy Cessationist Christians. Since they believe prophecies have already ceased, anyone who claims to be a prophet today is automatically categorized as a false prophet. But what about their Non-Cessationist brethren? Should they be left behind in the fold already infiltrated with wolves? They should at least try to inform them right?

Jeremiah 5:31 Ministry?welcomes Cessationists and Non-Cessationists alike to serve one another, to exchange information, to share anything related to prophetic activities and diverse prophecies circulating all over the globe especially in the Philippines.

Rappler.com?reported recently that 5 Filipinos open a Facebook account per minute. Facebook therefore appears to be the right medium where the ultimate aim of this Ministry can be realized: to raise awareness, to help educate, to share prayer concerns through exchange of any information of anything related to Biblical and Extra-Biblical prophecies.

We need to challenge the growing apathy and lack of concerns among fellow believers amidst the rise of potentially dangerous pretenders ravaging the Bible-believing Churches who are caught unaware of the Devil’s schemes. This is intervention, if you consider yourself a brother’s keeper then this ministry is for you.
